The Virgins - “Private Affair” (Daytrotter Session)

I’ve been waiting for The Virgins to release a full length album for a while now, and the wait will soon be over. June 3rd (pre-order it here). But in the meantime, they’ve done a Daytrotter session. The session features three songs off their 2007 EP — including a heavily rewritten version of “Love is Colder Than Death” — a previously unreleased song called “Va Va Virgins” that they wrote while on tour with Ra Ra Riot, and “Private Affair”, which I’ve uploaded here.

The song was new to me, but it’s been on their Myspace for a while. (Edit: I just noticed a whole host of other new songs on their MySpace since posting this this morning.)

Previous coverage of The Virgins on Tuneage is here.

The Virgins - Fernando Pando

New York’s The Virgins were one of my favourite discoveries of last year, after hearing their track “Rich Girls” on some podcast-or-other, and subsequently the rest of their EP. You’ll probably remember an episode of Gossip Girl from last year that featured every single track from the EP, too — if that isn’t a glowing testimonial, I don’t know what is. “Fernando Pando” is the third track from their current EP. Great no-frills, catchy-as-hell indie-pop.

They’re at SXSW this week, of course. They’ll be at Cedar door tomorrow at 8pm, and Wave Rooftop on Saturday at 1am. Their SXSW profile is here, where you can also download “Rich Girls”.

I posted this for Richard, whose internet is on the blink.
