A reader submitted this video, and I’m actually surprised it hasn’t been posted before. The song is Bat For Lashes’ “What’s A Girl To Do”, and the Dougal Wilson-directed video is, well, creepy. It’s (impressively) one continuous shot of Natasha Khan riding a bike down a dark road, past lost trick-or-treaters and a car crash, joined by guys on BMXs with oversized animal heads, doing tricks in time to the music.

The video is equal parts absurd and eerie, and well worth watching. A higher quality version is available at Pitchfork.tv.

Battles - “Tonto”

As a hint to the theme of this week’s podcast (now available through iTunes!), I thought I’d post the excellent video for the Battles’ song “Tonto”.

For this video the band teamed up with light artists United Visual Artists to create visuals that are a near-perfect fit for this song.

So check out the video now, and keep an eye out for the podcast later this weekend!

Chemical Brothers - “Star Guitar”

In almost every description of this video I’ve seen, someone uses the word “hypnotic”, and that’s precisely what this video is. Directed by the always-awesome Michael Gondry, everything in the video syncs up to something in the music. I’ve watched this video dozens of times and still catch something new each time.

Watch this video, be completely hypnotized by it (see what I did there?), then watch the making of video to see just how intricate this video really is.

Interpol - Rest My Chemistry

Directed by Blip Boutique and programmed by Aaron Koblin, this video uses a visualizer to trace life from two cells all the way out into space. A heavy video for sure.

Interpol may be a band I typically associate with winter, but this video is not to be missed regardless of the season.

Blondie - Dreaming

This song is without a doubt, one of the greatest by Blondie. I hear it and am instantly taken back to the days of Pabst and Smash Bros. Yes, I know, this isn’t a reference to the time it was recorded, but when I fell in love with them. The Blondie DVD was a necessary requirement for all my crazy Memphis nights. Tomorrow is Friday, so follow suit and you might find yourself eating breakfast with your cab driver…

Sam Amidon - Saro

If it’s not obvious yet, then I’ll let you in on an open secret: I can’t get enough of singer/songwriters who sound like they’ve recorded their music in their bedroom (Iron & Wine and Bon Iver, I’m looking in your direction). Seriously, I could listen to them all day long.

With this in mind, Sam Amidon couldn’t be more up my alley. I stumbled across Sam this past weekend, and since then I’ve bought both albums and had them on repeat. Sam plays a kind of Appalachian folk music that is vulnerable, crushingly beautiful, and all to rare these days.

Saro is the first single off his latest album, All is Well, and I dare you not to be moved by this song.

The Knife - Silent Shout

The beginning of this videos panders to my love of symmetry and all things awesome. However, something started bothering me, and I couldn’t put my finger on it. As I kept watching, I realized the people reminded me of old Tool videos. That’s when all my reservations washed away, and Silent Shout became a new favorite.

The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist

The Avalanches are an Australian electronic group specializing in samples, samples, and more samples. This is the video for their song Frontier Psychiatrist (a personal favorite), and to say it’s one of the most entertaining videos I’ve ever seen would be an understatement. Be sure to keep an eye out for the people under sheets making the ghostly “Oooo”s; it cracks me up every time.

Portishead - Machine Gun

This is the video for the first single off Portishead’s new album, the aptly titled Third (due out later this month). The song, one of the best off the album if you ask me, features a unique drum track and those familiar Portishead vocals.

Although not as good as it could have been, the video at least shows you how they made that fantastic drum track.
