Been a few weeks since we posted any WWTBs…lots to catch up on.
…and a few things we’ve failed to mention over the past few weeks:
Passion Pit - “Sleepyhead (Starsmith Remix feat. Ellie Goulding)”
The last thing anyone needs right now is yet another “Sleepyhead” remix or cover or rework or edit or whatever, but I haven’t even gotten round to listening to the full album yet, never mind squeezing the most out of this song. It’s probably nearing the end of its au courant status for remixes, but this one is among the best I’ve heard. Starsmith and Ellie Goulding have teamed up to produce it, giving it a complete vocal overhaul and changing the mood of the whole song. It’s just lovely.
And if you still haven’t had enough of the original, we posted it on Tuneage back in June.
Passion Pit - “Sleepyhead”
I’ve heard Passion Pit described as “giddy” by a few people, and I’d say that’s perfect. The music is built on synths, the occasional guitar, falsetto, and a healthy dose of shiny, upbeat, 80s influence. All in all, it’s excellent summer music. “Sleepyhead”, the standout track on PP’s debut album Manners (released a few weeks ago on Frenchkiss Records) and the track that made people stand up and take notice of the band, reminds me a bit of the Alice video we posted a little while back. Quirky, catchy, with an almost surreal feeling, “Sleepyhead” provides a perfect introduction to this band.
