Metronomy - “This Could Be Beautiful (It is)”

Here’s a metronome for your brains to float you through work on hump day. This song surprised me on my shuffle with the lovely way it unfolds into synchrony. Metronomy frequently tours with Foals and has remixed several artists including Franz Ferdinand, Goldfrapp, and Gorillaz. “This Could Be Beautiful” is from Metronomy’s only album Pip Paine. The release date of their second album Nights Out keeps getting pushed back, but it’s currently set for a June 30th release.

So, hopefully this song adds a good beat to your cerebellum, one of the oldest parts of the brain. That usually means you like it.

Evol Intent - “Maybe We’ll Dance Tomorrow”

Atlanta based drum & bass destroyers Evol Intent released their first full length Era of Diversion back in March. It is an album secluded in darkness, like a glitchy overture to rapture. Influenced by both late 80s/early 90s rap,  Taxi Driver and current politics the album ebbs and flows between hip-hop and IDM.  Sample heavy as it should be, the songs don’t feel like grindcore assaults on your ears. This is an album with equal parts dance, ambiance and warfare.

“Maybe We’ll Dance Tomorrow” is a perfect coda starting with a slow beat and tripping through IDM glitch. It eventually finds the typical Evol Intent chaos, a beautiful collection of trash and slash noise that lasts right until you think you can’t take it anymore, then it pulls back and again you’re left with a simple track more elegantly created than any other drum & bass track out there. The video was also just released and is the perfect companion to the song.
