Cloetta Paris - “Cry Just A Little Bit”

Hi, I’m Erica. This is my first post here at Tuneage so by way of introduction, I write the creatively titled Erica likes music. In addition to music, I always like Diet Coke and Boston sports (sue me). In regards to music, I currently like Bikini, Uh Huh Her and Gotye.

Cloetta Paris is a Bird and the Bee-esque boy girl duo from Sweden. As a part of Buffet Libre’s forthcoming 80s cover compilation release Rewind, they recorded this cover of Shakin’ Stevens (listen to the original here).

They seem have kept the best of the 80s: the unapologetic cheesiness and toe-tapping beat, while losing any trace of the original’s sound that makes you feel like you should be watching a montage in a Molly Ringwald film.

If you like what you hear, be sure to check out their debut album Secret Eyes, which came out in April.

Metronomy - “This Could Be Beautiful (It is)”

Here’s a metronome for your brains to float you through work on hump day. This song surprised me on my shuffle with the lovely way it unfolds into synchrony. Metronomy frequently tours with Foals and has remixed several artists including Franz Ferdinand, Goldfrapp, and Gorillaz. “This Could Be Beautiful” is from Metronomy’s only album Pip Paine. The release date of their second album Nights Out keeps getting pushed back, but it’s currently set for a June 30th release.

So, hopefully this song adds a good beat to your cerebellum, one of the oldest parts of the brain. That usually means you like it.

Hemme Fatale - “Peryglus Lucifer”

Hemme Fatale (they know that’s not the correct french, and they don’t care) are 2 girls and a guy from Cardiff that met while temping at a private agency. The three of them make up another one of those electro-pop bands that are all the rage at the moment, and they’re just as good as any of the others. Though the obvious and exaggerated 80s influences set them a little higher than the others (if that’s your thing, at least). My favourite part about these guys is how they describe themeselves on their MySpace page:

One day we hope to rescue Britney from her celebrity hell and take her down [W]etherspoons for a gas, but for now we’re just making some pop songs[.]

This song is the last song to be completed for their Silent Sleepover EP. It’s an excellent, bouncy track that features “fists in the air 80’s saxophone” and Aled Phillips of Kids in Glass Houses providing the male vocals.

The full EP and a remix of Modernaire’s “Fait Tes Jeux” are downloadable from their MySpace page. If you like what you hear, and happen to be a Cardiff local, you can catch them at the Hell’s Bent Festival, a 7-hour festival, on the 20th June.

Hot Chip - “Bubbles They Bounce”

This track was a B-side on Hot Chip’s single Ready For The Floor. It’s a little different from the usual Hot Chip electro-pop fare; more of a distorted, quirky dance track. A little more bouncy than you might usually expect, fittingly. Make sure you stick around for the last minute, which is almost another song all to itself.

Samuel - “Say Goodbye”

Currently building steam on the world wide intertubes is NYC comp-rock star Samuel. Part of the downtown heavyroc music collective and feted by Mark Ronson on his radio show, Samuel pumps out driving, dance-y tracks laced with super-sweet vocal melodies.

While comparisons to other electro-pop artists and bands might abound, Samuel has something the others do not: swagger. Afraid of nothing and ready to take on anything, Samuel has both the sweetness and the attitude that artists need to maintain and grow. Check out his MySpace for more music and info, his influences are a particularly good read too.

The Knife - Silent Shout

The beginning of this videos panders to my love of symmetry and all things awesome. However, something started bothering me, and I couldn’t put my finger on it. As I kept watching, I realized the people reminded me of old Tool videos. That’s when all my reservations washed away, and Silent Shout became a new favorite.
