Quiet Village - “Circus of Horror”
Quiet Village are a British duo that make funky, chilled out, midtempo electronica that draw an easy comparison to The Avalanches. Designed for the dancefloor and heavily inspired by the Balearic movement, with a slow, heavy beat, and vintage movie soundtracks. In fact, I watched Grindhouse this weekend, and I realised: this track, “Circus of Horror”, sounds like it was ripped straight from a Tarantino movie.
Looking forward to Portishead’s latest album? I know I am. But there’s still a little under a week before it’s released. In the meantime, you can stream the full album on Third’s page on last.fm.
Bonus: Here’s a link to Sasha Frere-Jones’ excellent review of the album in the New Yorker.
Air - Kelly Watch The Stars
Air’s Moon Safari turns ten in a few days, and they’ve set up a website to celebrate (or more appropriately: advertise; 3-disc collector’s edition, anyone?) the fact. Never one to miss out on a celebration, here’s my favourite from the album. Electro-pop will never be this good again.
Also, don’t miss the recently created — presumably to coincide with the anniversary — official Air Youtube channel, where you’ll also find the unmissable video for “Kelly Watch The Stars”.
