Deer Tick - “Dirty Dishes”

Today has turned into a dreary, rainy day in St Louis, and for me, that means music to match. As I rolled through my iPod, I settled on an album I purchased a while ago, but haven’t spent much time with: Deer Tick’s War Elephant.

Deer Tick is the stage name for Rhode Island’s John McCauley. His music is a blues-tinged bit of folk-rock, scratchy voice and all. His lyrics can be a bit downtrodden, but they feel heartfelt and honest, and I think “Dirty Dishes” showcases this perfectly. After 2 listens through the album, Deer Tick has proved to be the perfect choice for my rainy day. In fact, I’m going to go play it again.

Also noteworthy is Deer Tick’s Daytrotter Session, which if memory serves, was the first place I heard his music.
