Crystal Stilts - “Crystal Stilts”

Their MySpace page tells us that the Crystal Stilts self-identify as “Psychedelic / Minimalist / Punk”, and I’d say that’s about right. With Jesus and Mary Chain, Velvet Underground, and Joy Division as obvious influences, it’s hard for me not to like this band. Brad Hargett’s affectless, dark croon is an excellent complement to the noise-pop guitars and wall of sound, and the record’s gloomy tone just feels right.

The Crystal Stilts debut LP, Alight of Night was released in October on Slumberland, and would come highly recommended to anyone who likes their vocals gloomy and their music fuzzy.
