Annuals - “Hardwood Floor”

After seeing this post on Tuneage I was reminded of Such Fun’s release and how I would react to the band’s 2nd full length effort.  A dynamite production, Be He Me nearly convinced me the band could get no better.

I am QUITE satisfied thusfar with Such Fun.  The band maintains its quirky, syncopated edge but expands melodically and instrumentally.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is first record where they use a pedal steel guitar, a brand new timbre with which the group can experiment.

Any thoughts on Such Fun?

The Annuals - “Mama”

The Annuals, a 6-piece band out of North Carolina, just released a new album titled Such Fun. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to check out the new one, but their 2006 release, Be He Me was a big sleeper hit for me. Be He Me sat in my iTunes library for what must’ve been close to a year before I really sat down with it, and I’ve been in love with it ever since.

“Mama”, a folky and mellow yet uplifting song that’s perfect for a Friday afternoon, is one of my favorite tracks from Be He Me. Now I just need to get off my duff and pick up Such Fun.
