El Ten Eleven - “I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool”
Fans of Gary Hustwit should recognize this band immediately. El Ten Eleven featured prominently in Hustwit’s documentary Helvetica by providing all the music for the film. They’re set to feature just as prominently in Hustwit’s next documentary, Objectified. In fact, this song, whose title is so good I can’t think of anything witty to say about it, provides the background to Objectified’s trailer
I tend to think of El Ten Eleven as a simpler version of Ratatat, largely because their approach is similar: two guys with guitars and no lyrics (ETE, however, uses fewer electronics). El Ten Eleven’s songs are short, crisp, and don’t waste a lot of time with bogus filler, a problem that plagues a lot of “post-rock” bands. “I Like Van Halen Because My Sister Says They Are Cool” is the second track on ETE’s latest record These Promises are Being Videotaped, released this past April on Fake Record Label.
