Agnes Obel- Riverside
Hailing from Copenhagen, Riverside is off of Obel’s first studio album, Philharmonics, The cover art for this album very acutely represents Obel’s sound–haunting, beautiful, simple and slightly dark, if not sorrowful.
I love the fullness of Obel’s sound. She writes all the songs on her album, and composes; playing almost all the instruments herself.
Her voice is haunting and yet very sweet, making her lyrics sharper. Riverside is a heart aching lullaby. It feels like a stripped down symphony. Intricate sounds, overlaying melodies and harmonies.
I’d advise maybe not listening to this song if you’re looking for a pick-me-up.
