Yonder Mountain String Band - “Half Moon Rising”

On a typical day, I don’t reach for bluegrass; however, a recently rekindled love affair with Colorado-based bluegrass group Yonder Mountain String Band has me reaching for bluegrass more than I used to.

As their name implies, YMSB is a quartet of stringed instruments (banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass), and with the possible exception of their self-titled album (of which I’ve only heard the AmazonMP3 preview snippets), you won’t hear any percussion on YMSB’s songs. Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Half Moon Rising” hails from YMSB’s 1999 debut, Elevation, and if you’re into fast-pickin’, vocal harmonies, and all-around fun music, then it’s not to be missed.
