J Rocc - “Chasing The Sun/Dragon”

A founding member of the World Famous Beat Junkies, J Rocc has consistently raised the bar for DJs around the world since 1993. I’ve never had the privilege of seeing him live, but I’ve got tons of live recordings and mixes by the man and his mixing skills are second to none. He put together the Thank You Jay Dee tribute series, probably the definitive J Dilla mixes. He was even the 3rd member of Jaylib, the J Dilla/Madlib supergroup. Many in his Beat Junkie crew have gone on to join other hip-hop groups and actually produce records, and now Mr. Rocc is about to join the fray with his debut album, Some Cold Rock Stuf. It’s due out this spring on Stones Throw and it’s a sample-based, instrumental affair. When you buy the physical copy of the album, it comes with one of a couple extra discs featuring a few MCs over bonus beats, but there’s no tracklisting. In true crate-digging, sample-finding fashion, you’ve gotta figure those ones out yourself.
